Magnetic Stripe Reader not working right

Greetings

I have a ps/2 wedge type MSR connected to a very compact POS machine. When I
received the machine, it had Windows 2000 on it, the MSR worked fine. When I
installed XPP on the machine, the MSR would not work without a ps/2 keyboard
present, the same with XPe. I thought it was a driver problem, but on the
Win2K installation, there is no driver loaded for the msr, and the device
works fine if I start up in DOS. I have had suggestions about using "dummy
keyboards" but the limited space on the device, and the fact that it mounts
flush on a wall, make that a very bad option. Does anybody know of a
software based solution for this problem?

Thanks
Richard

Wedge readers will sneak in the cooresponding keyboard signals when a card
is swiped.
It is my understanding that XP will talk to the keyboards during startup.
So not only does your bios talk to the keyboard, so does XP.
It might be the case that the wedge reader is not compliant with XP.
You may need to find another wedge reader. There are plenty out there.
Or find a USB or serial port one and write a driver to your user interface
(that is what one of my products does-Serial port)
