I have just installed Mafia with the latest patch but the game will not run.

System:
AMD64 3000+
Nvidia N6600 ASUS 256MB graphics
No sound due to no 64bit drivers available
1GB memory
Latest eval. xp64

Any ideas anyone

Hi LeeG,

Sounds like you'll need to reinstall or upgrade the drivers
for your Sound Card as the message suggests. Visit the
website of the sound card manufacturer and search for
their latest 64 bit drivers.

In addition to what Jimmy said you could also try asking over on
microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general

I have just installed Mafia but the game will not run because I do not have
the latest video codec to play the intro movies. The 327979 update don´t work
because it is only for windows xp SP1 and I have the SP2 already installed. I
can't find any other patch for this problem. The mafia 1.2 patch doesn't work
either.

Help , please

Hi Scott,

You can download the update directly from here:

So that's interesting !!! Went to the link using 98SE and it wants to run
the Validation tool? I didn't bother going thru the entire process but it
got me wondering ...

I take it now one has to have their XP pc connected to the internet and do
any update via a download rather than being able to dl, put on a cd etc. and
take to another pc that's NOT internet connected.

I live in very rural area and can take you to at least a dozen homes that
have a pc running XP but do not subscribe to any isp, e.g. have no use for
Internet itself (or consider Aliant/Sympatico to sleazy/greedy to want to
give them money and they're the only choice available). How are these people
supposed to get their patches etc. so other software keeps working, e.g.
game needs patch to run etc.?

Well it's a Windows XP patch.

Windows XP does make up 82% of the PC market according to my statistics
based on over 109 000 people. I'm sure it won't be hard to find a friend
with a Windows XP box that is hooked up.

The same way it's always been done.
