I have changed to Firefox and Thunderbird and have tweaked this way and
that way and now have them how i like them .. i have figured out how to
save my bookmarks and my email addresses but is there any way to back up
the settings so if anything happens i can just restore them to the way
they are now ?
Also is it possible to use a spell check say from word instead of using
the inbuilt spell check ?

Thanks for all your replies

Ciao,

The problem with all the 'stuff' that you can bolt-onto
Firefox/Thunderbird etc ... is that when you upgrade you have to
remember all the sources of your goodies and all the tweaks that went
into getting it all running.

Why?
Your profile is kept intact, the extensions no more valid are disabled and
you can see all them in the extension manager to check later for updates...
I don't see the problem.

mmmhhh ... do I not have to uninstall previous versions of the program
and extensions any more?

I know when I updated once before (quite a while ago admittedly) my
browser and mail got completely screwed up, and the various forums had
suggested that you should un-install all your previous version stuff in
order to do a clean install ... and this is basically what I have been
doing ever since.

Yes, you have to uninstall the program (not the extensions: the new FF
version will disable them if they're not compatible).
However, all your profile settings under
\Documents and Settings\your_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
remain untouched by the uninstall, then you won't lose all your settings.

Aye, there's the rub!

And the reason I'm still holding back on installing the full 1.0 version.

Cheers,

Roy
