I cannot find a way to modify the information displayed for a contact
in my 'Other Contacts' list. There simply is no provision in 6.1 to
modify/change/edit an entry, or so it seems.

I have tried deleting and re-adding the entry. In every instance, it
still (from 'somewhere') derives the 'old' information and refuses to
allow me to change it to new information.

Here's what I have:

I have a contact named 'michael' that I wish to change to read
'Tracy-Michael' in the 'Other Contacts' listings. But there is NO WAY
ANYWHERE in the MSN Messenger software which permits this change to be
made.

I have tried completely uninstalling MSN Messenger, reinstalling,
deleting my address book, readding information, and nothing works! I
still cannot change this contact listing!!

This is MADDENING and INSANE that Microsoft Messenger is so poorly
written so as to preclude any editing of the contact list.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Either help me out, or tell me where I can
send a nasty email to the idiots who wrote MSN Messenger. Thanks.

Greetings Lester,

You're right, this feature isn't presently in Messenger, however just because a feature
doesn't exist, doesn't mean the program is poorly written, nor does it mean the developers
are "idiots".

That being said, you can get this functionality now by using a third-party addition called
Messenger Plus. To do so, install Messenger Plus from here: http://www.msgplus.net. After
installation, open up the main Messenger window, click the Plus! menu, then Preferences,
under Contact List, choose Custom Names. Please note that this feature in Messenger Plus!
also requires MSN Messenger 6 and will not work in previous Messenger versions.

That information is supplied by the other person. Ask them to change it in
their personal information within messenger. Note: they may not want to just
to convenience you (-:

change them

You cannot change the display name of one of your contacts. Your
contact has to change their display name on their computer. To do this:

1. Open Messenger
2. Click Tools ===> Options
3. Type your new display name in the field provided
4. Click OK

I hope this was somewhat helpful.
