Hello,
i am using an logitech optical mouse, and for some unknown (yet)
reason, the mouse got crazy from time to time, jumping randomly
to a corner of a screen to the other.
I tried to fix the problem myself looking at the previous logs on
the web. It is aparantly a rather common problem, even though I have
not found any real solution.
It is not a virus, as i got the same problem using Windows XP or
Linux (both on the same machine) so is it a driver problem ?
Has anyone came across a similar problem ? Then, how did you fix it?

Any help is welcome :)

Hi,

I really doubt that it's a driver problem as it does it in both Windows
and Linux. They each use a different driver. Most likely your mouse
might need cleaning on the bottom where the light comes out OR your
mouse may be dieing. Those are the only possibilities that I can think
of at the moment. It might be something else but since it happens in
both Windows and Linux, I doubt it.

Dan

P.S. - I just thought of another reason. Do you have any hardware that
might be conflicting with it? Is any other hardware using the same IRQ?
Do you have any other mouse like devices attached that might be
accidentally being moved? These are other possibilities.

Or more than likely the mousing surface you are using either 1. Is too
reflective, (high gloss wood will do this) 2. It doesn't have enough of a
pattern. You might try picking up something well patterned, with a matte
finish and see if your problem goes away while mousing on that surface.

Both my optical mice had the same problem. Dumping the mouse-mats &
running both on the desk surface fixed it.

One desk is matt grey, the other matt black.

I get the same thing, but only if I move the mouse fairly quickly. (I'm
sure that using an optical mouse reduces my score in 3D multiplayer games.)

I bought a mousemat from func.net and I get a better response than with
a standard mousemat, but it's still no solution to occassional
teleporting pointers.

It's possible the optical laser on the bottom of the mouse
caught some dirt.

I don't think so, because there is no laser in an optical mouse.

Well, the optical sensors at the bottom, or whatever
that is:-)

thanks for your help :)

seemingly, it was the mousing surface which was to reflecting,
and since i use the back of it, which is absolutly matte, the
problem is fixed.
Thanks :-)

One word - Ratpadz GS (standing for 'Gaming Surface'). I have a Logitech
MX900 (Bluetooth) which exhibited the same problem in games and it fixed it
(it makes the mouse much more responsive and accurate).
