Whenever I start Word, I get 3 or 4 message boxes that say:

C:\PROGRA~... contains macros by Microsoft Corporation

Macros may contain viruses. It is always safe to disable macros, but if
the macros are legitimate, you might lose some functionality.

The security level is set to High. Therefore, you cannot enable macros
from sources that you do not trust.

How can I stop these? I know what macros are, and I have no intention
of using any. All I want to do is create basic letters, reports, etc.,
and read the ubiquitous Word documents that people send me.

Howard,

Macro security is a high by defualt with Word out of the box.
Tools>Macro>Security is the menu path to choose your desired setting. I use
Meduim and on the trusted sources tab I have checked both options at the
bottom.

With this setting, I only get the warning if I open a document that contains
a document stored macro (the kind likely to contain nasties if recieved from
a malicious source).

Hi Howard,

More than likely these are DLLs for Smart Tags. First try going to
Tools/Macros/Security and on the Trusted Sources tab turn on "Trusting
all installed add-ins and templates". You should be able to leave your
Macro Security set on High or if you prefer set it to Medium so you
will still be prompted as Greg suggested.
