I need to automatically print a document and close it. I created a macro and
named it AutoExec and saved it in a template for the document. When the
document opens, the macro is listed, but does not run.

Rename the macro AutoOpen

That was it. Great. Thanks. Now, how do I edit the document when it
automatically prints and closes?

(I just love the internet when it helps solves problems)

You can hold down the Shift key while opening the document to turn off any
Auto<anything> macros. However, you wouldn't have this problem if you follow
the advice I gave you in the docmanagement newsgroup, and use the
right-click menu in Windows Explorer to print instead of using any macro.

Thanks for the info. However, I issue a Word command startup from another
program to print the invoice. I don't want the user going through
un-necessary gun drills to get the job done.

There seems to be a difference between pressing the shift key while you click
on the document to open and holding down the shift through the process of
opening the document (just in case anyone sees this post in the future).
