I have a network consisting of Win2000 Servers and Win98 Clients. I also
have two or three WinXP Clients. A Win2000 Server handles DNS and WINS.
The problem is that clients are randomly dropping off the network and users
have to shut down and log back on to get access. As can be imagined there
is a bit of an uproar about the inconvenience and in particular the lost
productivity multiplied by 70 odd users.
I can not find an answer and would appreciate any suggestions. I know there
is facility to disconnect inactive users but this is disabled at this point.
If anyone has any articles on the importance of not leaving machines logged
on when leaving machines this would be appreciated as well, I need to submit
a report to management and want to make sure that all security doesn't go
out the window because of this problem. However, this does not help users
being dropped off whilst sitting at their machine.
Thank you
