MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION Error

At the weekend I started receiving this error and have been unable to
rectify it.

It occurs usually after about 1-2 minutes after booting. I have tried
removing & re-installing the graphics drivers and restoring the PC to an
earlier state from a Ghost image - both to no effect.

The fault does not occur when the PC is in safe mode, but as soon as I
re-boot into normal mode, there it is again.

Am I looking at a new graphics chip (it is currently a ATI Radeon 9000
Mobility)?

Thanks in advance

Chapter 13 of the Intel Architecture Software Developer's Manual,
Volume 3, explainsn the Machine-Check Exception error quite well
as well as how to interpret the error code. Usually the result of
badly mis-matched hardware or extremely poorly written driver code.

I haven't ran it with the cover off to check, but it does (and is now)
running continuously fine when in Safe Mode. This leads me to believe that
the fault is occurring when the more advanced functions of the graphics card
come into play. Then again I could be wrong!!

Haven't updated any hardware at all, so I think it may just be a failing
component.
