Tony the problem hasn't got anything to do with Windows XP. It is a pc
problem and may require you to enter the Bios. I'm only guessing here but it
maybe that the machine is set to automatically boot after a power failure.
For example, you turn the pc off at the power point so pc thinks there has
been a power cut. Turn it back on again and the pc assumes normal power has
been resumed.
Enter the Bios by rebooting and then as the bios details appear press the
Del key or whatever key you need to press. You will need to check your
pc/motherboard manual for this information. However, if you have a Pheonix
Bios then you will need to press the Del key. Once the bios menu appears
navigate to the Power Options Menu. Take a look at the 'After AC Power
failure' option and make sure it is set for 'Stay Off' The other options
should be 'Stay Off; Auto, or Power On' I'm assuming that, for some reason,
yours is set to Power On. Don't change any other option. Once completed Exit
from the power menu and you should be returned to the main menu. From here
you need to make sure that you Exit and Save your alterations.
If this problem has only just started i can't really understand, other than
if you have made alterations to the bios, how this has occured. I should
point out that editing the Bios is not for the faint hearted. If you make a
mistake it can cause problems which may result in your pc not booting up. So
please be careful.
