I have a Athlon 2000 with XP Pro that locks up either
during the post or soon after, usually only after the
machine has been off say overnight. Only a low level
reset will free it up. Sometimes it takes 4 to 6 restarts
to successfully boot thru and run a program. Any program
that is. Could I have a power supply prob. The various
voltages are all within spec after the machine gets going
(IE I check the "smart Prg").
This has been happening now for quite a while. Last week
I installed a new HD etc, the same happens.

Any suggestions please?

try a ram test, you may have some bad ram.If you have 2
sticks try taking 1 out, bootup, still doing it,put it back
in and take other out, bootup, still doing it,probably not
the ram.If you only have 1 stick,and don't have a system
test in your system tools, try best buys web site, they
have a Ram test somewhere in there.(and yes it could be
you power supply, and your wall outlet.Hope you have a
good surge protector. If you can use a different outlet.)
Try the ram first, sounds like one may have a bad sector
in it freezing it,till you can get around it.
