Machine hangs while performng a search

Every time a run a search, system.exe file takes up to
90% off CPU usage. Then i get a "non responding message"
Im running Windows XP Home edition, P4 2.66Mhz, 1Gb Ram.

With all the system resources you have turn off the
indexing and compressing of old files and so on. Be sure
to defrag if you get over %7. Do a chkdisk every couple of
weeks. Clean out old and temp files. Get a registry
cleaner. The list is almost endless. Without doing a
remote application share it is hard to determine the exact
reason for this. If however you have enabled "compress
files to save disk space" this can cause excessive use of
system resources to access and scan the compressed files.
Enable write caching. etc etc. Keep smiling.

System is a valid process in Task Manager. System.exe is not. Suspect a
virus and run a full system scan with an up to date antivirus program.
