Hello All,
My machine when booting up hangs(freezes) during the scrolling process of XP
loading and shuts down. I do not see a BSOD. I was able to boot into safe
mode and check the event viewer. The errors I saw said according to the
Help and Support window that I need to replace the IDE cable which I have
done twice now. After each time(this has happens several times in the past
year) I replace the cable it seems fine for a while then it happens again.
Is there something else I should be looking for? Is my mobo starting to
have problems at the IDE connections on the board? Not sure where to look
next. Any ideas.

Thanks in Advance

Since replacing the cable doesn't give you a permanent fix, you know the
problem is either the hard drive controller or the motherboard IDE
connector.

1. Back up your data to external media.

2. Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from the
drive mftr.'s website. You will create a bootable cd or floppy with this
file; boot with that media and do a thorough test. If the hard drive
fails any physical tests, replace it.

3. If the hard drive tests OK, you may wish to do some motherboard tests
but most probably the motherboard is failing and should be replaced. If
the computer is under warranty, contact the OEM's tech support.

I did the HDD test which came out fine. Right after I did this test the
unit began running fine again with NO errors. I believe its probably time
to update anyway! Thanks again for the help!!
