Don Paul

I have a Brother Multi Function printer connected via USB
to a Win2000 Pro system and want to print to it from an
Imac with OS 10.2 or .3
I can access the shared files on the Win2000 from the
Imac so the connections are all good.
I have installed Appletalk file and printer services on
Win2000 (I think I'm repeating this properly)

I can't see the printer from the Imac.
I'm guessing I will have to install the printer driver
from the Brother cd - is this correct? But this won't
solve the problem of connecting to the printer right?

Hi Don!

If you're running Windows 2000 Pro then you don't have Appletalk file
and print sharing capabilities.

Windows 2000 does come with Appletalk to allow it to communicate with
Appletalk print devices, but the communication is strictly one-way.

You can try using Add/Remove Programs to install Print Services for Unix
(aka LPR or IP Printing). With this installed, your Mac OS 10.x machines
can print via LPD/LPR (an option available while setting up a new
printer) using the W2K Pro machine's IP address and the _share name_ of
the printer as the queue name on the Mac.

Hope this helps! bill

Man, I was hoping you'd be replying to this request.
I've read about doing it this way but it was always so
complicated; your explanation made it sound so simple.
AND it was. It worked great. So when I saw the Appletalk
listed on the 2000 machine it wasn't what I thought it
was. Great help Bill Thanks again
Don
