mac formated firewire drive to be read by PC

if i have a mac formated firewire drive, can my pc running XP automatically
see it when I plug it into my pc? or does it have to be dual formated?

You need to be running 3rd party software to see HFS / HFS+ formatted drives
on PCs.

I use MacDrive from MediaFour and would heartily recommend it to all and
sundry.
