I HAVE SPRINT DSL WITH STATIC IP AND I CANNOT LOCATE THE
MAC ADDRESS WHICH I UNDERSTAND I NEED TO CLONE TO SET UP
MY MN-500 WIRELESS BASE STATION. IT IS NOT ON THE MODEM
ANYWHERE. IS THERE ANOTHER WAY TO FIND OUT WHAT IT IS?
IS IT ALL NUMBERS? IS IT DIFFERENT FROM MY STATID IP
ADDRESS?

THANKS!

Hi

Please don't use all caps when you type a message, it's considered shouting
and is rude.

The MAC address is a 'Physical Address' you see when you type 'ipconfig
/all' in a command prompt and hit enter, it isn't your IP address.

However, if you're trying to spoof the MAC address of a particular PC then
the usual entry you need in the router config is the IP address of the PC
with the MAC address you want to clone.

.
It appears that you are needing to spoof the ip addy of
the pc to the router that you bought so that your isp
doesn't need to permission the router.
Here's what you do.
1. shell out to a DOS prompt and enter "winipcfg / all"
without the quotes if you have a Win 9X machine
or "ipconfig /all" if you have an NT based machine.
record your physical address and type exit to close the
DOS window.
2. Get back into your routers interface and you should
have a GUI interface that will have an entry that will
ask you to imput the MAC address for the PC. this spoofs
your PC and allows you internet access without having to
concact the ISP to permission your router.

3. the router the DSL company gave you is already
permissioned. I hope this is what you were looking for.
thie only other scenario I can think is you needing to
take the ISP's router/cable modem off line so you can
place yours in front of it. Why would you want to do
that? you need your new router you bought I presume to be
behind your ISP's router/cable modem in order for them to
function properly.

later,
Joe
