Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if there is a way to restrict clients
getting an IP address by MAC address filtering. I want to
stop people going and plugging in anywhere there's a live
socket.

Thanks,

Rob

MaC Is Hw address of the network adapter, So how do you
wnat to restict using any socket. If you restirct a MAC
that means one particular machine will not be able to get
IP from DHCP. No matter wht socket it pluged in??

Hi Rob,

DHCP has no mechanism to prevent machines from getting an IP address based
on a MAC address. The best solution to this is to use 802.1x
authentication, but this requires hardware that supports it. Another
possiblity is to use DHCP client reservations for every one of your
"authorized" clients and exclude any unused IP address in your scope. This
way DHCP would have no IP addresses available to assign to "unauthorized"
clients.

Thanks,
