We're looking to "share" a folder off of a w2K
Professional PC with some MAC 9.2 systems. Is this
possible with W2K Pro? We can do it with Server but need
to go to a PC. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Mike!
W2K Professional does not run Services For Macintosh, like the server
version, so you'll most likely need to install a third party app on one of
the machines.
You have many choices.
1.) Install Dave from Thursby (
http://www.thursby.com) on the Mac or a
similar piece of software that allows a Mac to participate in a Windows
network as a Windows peer.
2.) Install PC MacLAN from Miramar (
http://www.miramar.com) on the PC or a
similar piece of software that allows a PC to participate in a Mac network
using the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP).
3.) Upgrade your Mac to Mac OS 10.3 (releasing in just a few days from
Apple), which has native SMB networking allowing the Mac to participate in a
Windows network.
4.) Turn on built-in web sharing on both machines. This will allow you to
connect from one machine to the other and pull files using a web browser.
You can't upload or open the file across the network, but this is free.
Check out the MacWindows website for more options
(
http://www.macwindows.com/Network.html).
Hope this helps! bill
