I'm trying to load SimCity4 on a Dell P3 800 mhz desktop.
After entering the key, it gives the subject error under a
dsetup.exe dialog box. Can anyone help? I'm running
DirectX 9.0b.

Hi Adam,

Search your hard drive for all files named: dsetup.dll

You'll find the version that came with the DX 9.0b setup program
is more recent than the one in your Windows\System32 directory.
Replace the older file with the newer one to resolve the error. :-)

Here's how Steve did the above a few weeks ago....

"Jimmy,

You're a star. Thanks for all your help and for making me
think!

The version of Dsetup.dll in my Windows\System32
directory was version 4.04.00.0069 (DirectX for Windows
95).

I have now replaced this with the one that came with my
Directx9.0b setup and SimCity4 has installed and is
working.

Thanks again.
When you get the results back, right-click the one in
c:\Windows\system32 and check the properties. The file
version of the one I had, was 4.04.00.0069, which had a
product name of Microsoft® DirectX for Windows® 95.

The DirectX 9.0b setup that I downloaded from the
Microsoft web site has a Dsetup.dll and dsetup32.dll.
Dsetup.dll is version number 4.09.00.0902.

Renamed the Win95 version to Dsetup.old and then copied
in both of the new files and everything now works.

It has made me think, though. I presume the file has been
there since I upgraded from Win95 to 98 and then to XP.

Regards,

Steve"
