Hi, I have posted a few times but have not received any
replies, and read some of your posts and you seem to know
what to do in most cases. I installed software for my
sons school required Palm tungsten E and ever since my IE
says that an error has occurred and I can send a report.
From reading this board - sounds like a ton of people are
having the same issue - less the palm software. I ran a
virus scan, a stinger disc and everything has come up ok.
In the meantime - we can't access our internet. Once in a
while I can go to a link from an email in outlook and work
for a few minutes before getting the error. Any ideas.
We have windows 98 SE, High speed internet, up to date
virus and firewall protection. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks again,

Mary
(ps - I'm not very technical so hopefully I have given you
enough info)

Hi Mary - :-)

Sorry you've not gotten any answers to your query(ies). I am thoroughly in
ignorance about anything regarding a Palm. W98SE is what I use and am just a
little better with it. <g>

Now, This issue ("Error reporting; MS has encountered a problem and must
close") IS way too common, and a "blanket" answer to it has not yet been
cornered... unfortunately.
Incidentally, I don't bother with the error reports; that's strictly
"in-house" to MS. They won't "get back to you" about it. Their RD Techs
dissect the report and try to find cause and effect/ fixes, but that's all.

You say you cannot access the Internet, yet the machine is clean? Assuming
everything is in order from your configuration/ISP end, then perhaps you
need to have some correction due to a previous cleaning (?) which removed a
malware item which also disabled your ability to access the internet.

You will need to obtain and download/install the following (from a friends
PC if need be). Both can fit on a floppy disk. Approximately 178 KB and 666
KB respectively. They can even e-mail then to you as an attachment, provided
your e-mail client can access and work(?). Instructions at the webpages in
question.

Download LSPFIX from either of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html (For Win2k or XP)

Download Winsockfix here
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257

OK, you can try the following, and see if it helps the Error reporting
issue:
Open an ms-dos prompt window (Start>Run>) and type the following (one entry
at a time), and press enter (or click OK) after each line. A message will
appear stating
that these have been registered successfully. (you can copy and paste these
into the Run box)
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll (this command only for Win2000 and XP. Do not use with
W98se)

Then re-open your browser and see how things behave.

Lets see if this helps for starters. Post back to this thread, I will come
and go for the next few days (very busy time for me right now.) but we'll
see what we can do. BTW, You're giving me credit where none is due, but
thank you anyway. <s> This Newsgroup is chock full of helpful volunteers
just like myself, but actually much more qualified than I.
