I have the hp 5652 and the noise comes from the metal bar that the head
moves.
I bought high quality Silicone grease and Lithium+PTFE grease.

That is a fairly new printer and unless you have it in a very dirty
enviroment, it shouldn't be makeing noises. Is it a grinding noise
throughout the legnth of movement or is it a knocking noise at the end
of the carrieges travel? If it's grinding or scraping noise, the
shaft should be removed, cleaned with alcohol and then wiped off and
polished with a clean cloth. The carriage has 2 rings that the bar
fits through and they both should have some sort of a fibre type pads
that are lubricated. Check these pads for metal filings or other
foreign objects imbeded in them and put a small dab of the lithium
grease on each.

The DeskJet 5652 is new enough that it is still under warranty. I would not
disassemble a printer still under warranty - call HP at 1-800-HPINVENt for
warranty service.

Darn good advise. I missed that about the warranty bit. Thanks Bob.
