I've got a computer here running Windows 2000. The
permissions were changed on the lsass.exe then it was
rebooted. I cannot get the logon script to run now. Can
anyone tell me how to either bypass the logon or get to
the file and change the permissions?

Boot from the install cdrom and go into Recovery Console. You must know the
password for the built in administrator to do such. After logon type this
without the quotes [assuming c is your system drive] " copy
c:\winnt\system32\dllcache\lsass.exe c:\winnt\system32 ". You should be
prompted to copy over existing file. Type yes and enter. Then select exit
and the computer should reboot and allow you to logon. If you can't do that.
you will need to put the hard drive in another computer to copy over the
file/change permissions or do a parallel installation onto the same computer
just for that purpose or do an in place upgrade of Windows 2000 which
requires reinstall of service pack first and then ALL critical updates but
should preserve data and applications.--- Steve

These aren't issued with the install cds. Is there
another way?

Unfortunately with out an install disk your options are limited, but yes that can be
done. Many places sell kits to accommodate a laptop hard drive in a desktop computer
as shown in the link below. --- Steve
