My 2000 server is giving this error when booting. "Directory service cannot start error status 0xc00002e1. Please click ok and reboot into directory service restore mode. Check event log for more detailed info."
I went to Microsofts page and they said "This behavior occurs because the NTFS file system permissions on the root of the drive or the NTDS folder that holds the Active Directory database files and log files are too restrictive, and Active Directory cannot start. This behavior may also occur if the drive letter of the volume that contains the Active Directory has changed.
"
I have checked all this and it is all fine. Does anyone have any other clues?

Have a look at article 258007, 240655, 325040, 258062.
