My system now comes up with an error message saying
lsass.exe error---will restart system in 60 seconds--
status code 1073807364.

Does anyone know how to correct this??

Try booting into alternate startup menu and select "last know good configuration". If
that does not help try safe mode. If that works you have a problem with a startup
service/application/driver and you would need to get a copy of msconfig from an XP
box or a download site and troubleshoot with that via selective startup. If that does
not work, consider an upgrade installation that should keep your data and
applications intact but require you to first reinstall your service pack and then all
of your critical updates at no more than five at a time. If you get it running, be
sure to scan for viruses with the latest definitions from the vendor' website. ---

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;292175 --- will require
install cd and product key.

Steve-- thanks for your help-- I'll give it a try.
