I have reinstalled xp on my toshiba laptop and get errors
that seem like worm errors but when I run the worm
programs from norton, it says no worm found. Any advice??

I don't remember the exact message (I am at work now) but
it states that there is a problem with lsass.exe. That
lasts for a few seconds then a second box comes up that
says NT authority system shutdown. I found the command
from dos to stop the shutdown and then searched
lsass.exe. I was told by "norton" that I had the sasser
virus but when I ran the program in safemode and with
restore turned off it stated "no worm found" I did
install some download patches and was able to then rid
myself of that error message but then RPC shutdown box
appeared. I searched that and was told that it was
probable blaster worm. Again I ran the program provided
by Norton and it said "no worm found"

THe question is how can I be getting worms since I just
retored the system using toshiba restore disk (it seemed
to go through a format process before restoring)and if I
do have these worms why do the anti-worm programs not
identify them, and instead say no worm found?

Well, it is a virus.
My advice to you!
Download AVG or Symantec anti virus
Download XP SP 1
Burn them all to a CD
Wipe your system out and DO NOT CONNECT IT TO THE INTERNET ON FRESH INSTALL.
After the reinstall, first install the Anti Virus, then SP1, and then
connect to the net.

The orignial install connects automatically to the old Windowsupdate site
which was attacked and infected and discontinued by Microsft.

Thanks. That certainly makes sense. I still wonder why
the symantec programs didn't detect the worms. I suppose
the anti-worm patches will still work even though the
detect programs do not?

And why arent those websited disabled???
