I just got my LS-5000 this week, and I'm having a problem of either a fat
line showing up (usually in just about the same spot; this usually happens
with my NikonScan software), or a kind of banding happening.(this tends to
happen more with my Vuescan software). It happens on about 10% of the
slides I'm scanning--and when I run them through again, they might come out
perfectly clean the next time. You can see examples of it here:

Did I get a lemon, or is there something esoteric about the scanner or the
software I should know?

I think I've run about 6,000 slides through my 5000 now and have had
no such results. I've been using the batch feeder instead of the
strip film or single slide feeders but the exposure window is almost
identical.

It looks like something was partially blocking the window opening. Is
there any thing loose inside either the feeder, or LS 5000?

I don't see how it would cause this, but might you possibly have it
set for multiple scans? What ever, it's probably something simple.

Mine has been running many hours, but I still have a great deal to
learn about it.

Which version of Nikon Scan are you using? 4.01 is now available for
download either as a complete package, or just an update.

Have you contacted Nikon Support and read their database?

Thank you for your response, Roger. I'm using a batch feeder--it's the old
SF-200 from my LS-2000. I had no problems like that with my LS-2000 etiher.

I'll have to shake it around a bit!

I sure hope so!

It came with 4.0, so maybe I'll give it a try--but I have parallel problems
using the LS-5000 with Vuescan.

I couldn't find anything in the database. I haven't heard back from Nikon
Support--but I'm in a hurry because I may need to rush the thing back to the
vendor before they won't allow a return! Thank you again for your many
good ideas. Doug
