Hi,
I have XP professional in a Dell Dimenson. All available
updates have been installed. Dell pre installed XP but
did not send the CD for possible re instalation.
PROBLEM:
Device manager shows LPT1: working properly.
When I try to install a paralell printer to LPT1:, during
the manual instalation when I try to choose LPT1: I
cannot because it is not part of the list available. I
see all com: LPT2 and above , USB virtual, bur no sign of
LPT1:.
Dell troubleshoot database has a similar problem and the
solutions is to reinstall XP because the registers are
corrupted.
Is there any other way???
1- Since I have no CD for that particular computer, can I
use the CD from another XP instalation on my network
without the serial numbers getting in conflict???
2- Or can I download some "fix" from the windows site?
Please help me find LPT1.

Thank you.
