Is there a way to monitor the the ins and outs
to lpdsvc. We have a VMS box using the LPD service
to print. A few times a day, it just 'jams'. There
are no log entries, or anything else we can see.
Rebooting the print server is our present solution.

SOMETIMES we can stop and restart the service, but
usually will not let us stop it. It just sits there
attempting to stop the service.

Thanks

Does the windows machine also act as a DHCP server. Or does the windows
machine have Simple TCP services installed? These two services and
lpdsvc.dll are all controlled by tcpsvcs.exe. I have seen issues when
stopping one service causes the other services to fail. Check and verify
that tcpsvcs.exe is not listed in task manager.

Is a user.dmp file created when the service fails?

You would need a debug "checked" lpdsvc.dll binary to enable the logging
function. Not sure how checked versions of the OS are made available in the
real world.

At the suggestion of the mainframe guys will killed the Symantec
Corp Virus service - and we've been up ever since. Explain that!
Thanks.

No - not a dhcp server, os w2k server.

Thanks
