Hi- Sometimes while I am home communicating with the network at my job, my computer will display a small green square in the lower right hand corner, next to where my Norton symbol stays. It fills up totally green and then slowly lowers the level of green until it is blank and then disappears. What is this and do I need to be addressing it in some way technically? Thanks.

Try double clicking or right clicking the icon to open the program itself. There is not enough information to assist you with what it may be.

If this is not a program you are running yourself then it
is probably spyware or a dialer.sometimes you can
uninstall themin the right click menu.

I had this "green square" appear along with a total 'freezing' of my
TaskBar/Quick Launch. Desk Top icons were still operational. My green stayed
a solid shade and I finally used the power switch to shut down. I, too,
would like to know what is the cause. CGS

Green square? Do you have Task Manager set to "hide when minimized"? This
setting removes the taskbar button and only shows a small square icon next
to the clock Task Manager. A square that is entirely green indicates high
CPU activity. Double click the square to get the Task Manager screen
displayed.

Once Task Manager is up, go to the Processes page. Click the CPU column to
sort the processes according to CPU usage. Take note of the process name
that's running away with your CPU cycles.

If malware or virus, take the necessary steps required to remove it. If
it's software that you normally use, check for updates. If the problem
continues and the application is allowed to run in the background, disable
the startup feature and run it only when needed.
