Low Virtual Memory

I have Windows XP and lately nothing has been working due
to the computer having low virtual memory. I have around
8gb free space, so I dont think that affects it.

I can't even print pictures as it says theres not enough
virtual memory. When I play mp3's on Windows media
player, they seem to not exist.

No programs work, or they stall.

Could someone please help me fix this problem and list a
guideline/steps on how to do it?

I used adware-6 to delete all the adware and spyware
stuff on my comp and nothing still seems to work or open.

Right click My computer/properties/Advanced
tab/performance settings/(when this page opens by default
it will select let windows select what is best, if you
have any custom settings on visual effects tab click
custom before doing anything else) click advanced tab /
virtual memory change /increase virtual memory here
something less than 4000Mb.

Hope this helps, and is there anything you might want to
get rid of like old system restore checkpoints, unused
programs, Outlook files etc. You didn't say how big HD was
but sounds pretty full.

I've already been to the virtual settings part in my
computer. You do the max paging file size at (3x256mb
ram) and min paging file size (1.5x256mb ram)

I have 8gb free space and have spybot, adware for
cleaning computer. Have AVG Virus check and just
installed free full version of ZoneAlarmPro.

How do you get rid of "old system restore checkpoints"?

I think I may have a virus even though it hasnt been
picked up and I have to get a computer guy out to put
more memory, 40gb hard drive in and fix the internet
pages (hotmail, netbank, bigpond email) that dont load

At disc cleanup Start/programs/accesories/system
tools/disc cleanup/More options tab/system restore cleanup
button will remove all but last restore point.
Don't know what applications you are doing but video photo
etc uses a lot of temporary memory to manipulate and
encode if you are getting request for more VM give it some
more and don't lock yourself into the formula (more than I
way to skin a cat). Microsoft recommends 766Mb for VM.
