When I use my laptop with the AC adapter the screen resolution becomes dark.
When I use the laptop with the battery the screen resolution is bright. Why
is the screen darker when I am on AC power and can I change that?

Have you tried the brightness and contrast controls. Some laptops have those
settings while on AC and battery independent of each other, though the
battery is typically dimmer so the laptop can save juice.

Going into the display settings does not make a difference when on AC power.
The screen is so dark while on AC power that I opt to not use the AC power
when I don't have to. Any other suggestions?

That's very unusual. Does the machine seem affected any other way, like
slower on AC? It's a long shot, but I wonder if your power supply might be
failing and putting out too little current. If by any chance you know
someone with an identical unit and could try a swap test, it might be
worthwhile.

You're looking in the wrong place. Brightness and Contrast are not Windows
features. They are hardware features of the screen. Your laptop should have
a brightness and contrast setting (they are usually the little sun and moon
type pictures on the keyboard). These pictures are in conjuction with other
keys and the symbols themselves are in blue. Once you find which keys the
are, hold down the Fn key and press the Sun up key. That will increase
brightness. Continue this proceedure until you get the desired brightness.
If all else fails, call your laptop maker for tech support.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!!!!! I was looking in Windows also and
thought I'd never find this answer. I'm so relieved. Your are a life saver.

Thank you! I was pressing the right keys but not holding down the Fn key.
Will this help my computer to work outside? I want to take my ThinkPad to the
park, but I can't see a thing on the screen if the sun is shining.

Take it to the park at night!

Take it to the park at night(or on cloudy days)!
