low-res webcasts

Hi, I have windows vista (business) on a laptop.
Photos, movies all look perfect.
However when I d/l a webcast (microsoft - msdn) the slides/screenshots
etc are very low res, grainy and colours look like they have been
"gif'ed" if you see what I mean.
Is this likely to be done on purpose to keep file sizes smaller or do
I need to set something in media player?
I'm 99% sure the answer is file size but thought I'd check first.
There is no low res/high res download option.

You are likely to find that the webcast would look the same on any other
computer (unless your processor hasn't got SSE3, or SSSE3, etc - and those
extensions have a function in compression).
