Low photo resolution/ DPI

I am having problems with a new computer that appears to be adjusting down
the resolution from a high end digital camera that I have used for two years
now. The new computer is still running XP SP2-- BUT is the media addition.
On my old system, all photos would be at 300 DPI now all photos imported are
at 144DPI.
All photo editing software, and I have 3 or so that I have used is also the
same-144DPI. ( It is not the editing software- I presume)
Does anyone know of someplace in XP that I might be able to change the DPI
when importing photos from the camera?
I am using the Microsoft Scanner & Camera Wizard to import form the camera.

Sounds like a setting in the camera might
have been changed.

Check your camera's manual for instructions
on how to change the image resolution.

What is the make and model of the camera?

Nothing to worry about. The dpi calculation by your software is artificial
and has nothing to do with the resolution of the photos you have from your
digital camera.
What is important? Simply the dimensions in pixels of your photo files. So
look at the pixel dimensions. Say your camera is set for taking a picture at
4000 x 3000 pixels. When you download the picture on your computer, do you
see the picture dimensions as 4000 x 3000. If so, everything is fine. Forget
the photo editing software converting pixel per inch (PPI) to dot per inch
(DPI). DPI is for printing and has nothing to do with the resolution of your
photo files.
