Low Performance Rating Disables Aero?

I got a performance rating of 2, even though everything was 3.8+ , except my
Radeon 9550 g256mb raphics adapter which was a 2. I cannot use the aero glass
look and i'm wondering if this is the reason why, despite the fact that ATI
supports this card for Aero Glass and Vista BETA2. I have the Vista beta
drivers for my card as well.

Well unless you tell me differently as far as I can tell nobody can even get
that graphic card to load correctly in Windows Vista even after installing
Ati's vista driver. So the fact that you can't use aero glass is not the
rating particularly but even just the card's drivers are not installed
properly on the system. You need to check your device manager and see if
there is an exclamation point by your Radeon 9550 card??

I checked in the device manager and it says the device is working properly,
however in Ratings and Performance while it has Radeon 9550 as Video card, it
says "No gaming hardware detected" and also DirectX diagnostic sees the card
but reports that it has 0mb of memory. But i have been to several other
forums where people have said their Radeon 9550s worked fine first go. So i
don't understand why Vista doesn't like mine. Oh, and my card DOES work i
tried it in another PC to make sure and it ran doom 3 perfectly.

Well, if you say so. If you take a look at some of the other responses in
this thread you will see what I am talking about. I guess it could be that
our cards are having other issues that are not related to the driver's issue.
Do you have the beta driver from the ATI website or just the one that
Windows loaded? I still say that you are probably having an issue and maybe
your device manager is not recognizing it for some unknown reason. However
if the device manager is recognizing it, look to see if it tells you the chip
and all of that under properties of the card??

You can try this:

Go to display prop, change to use only 1 screen (if multiple were detected)
and change resolution to lowest possible (usually 800x600).

Now go to the perf thing and ask it to refresh the rating. Your gfx card
rating is very likely now 3+. At this point the glass should be visible but
you could try a reboot if it's not. Now step up the resolution again. The
glass may go away at some point if you use multiple monitors for example
with high resolution or just very high res alone.

Very high resolutions may need 512 MB mem from gfx card to use glass.

I agree with droid-refresh your performance rating-mine was not correct after
initial install-start-control panel-performance and rating-refresh my
rating(under the large rating number) and see if that helps

The performance rating will not (should not) disable Aero. It's the driver
that isnt working properly. Is this an All In Wonder card by any chance? If
so, there are no Vista drivers yet for the AiW cards.
