low memory

I have a "Memory Meter" program installed on my computer
which gives me the % free space. It is always pretty low
(<60 %), sometimes much lower (<30 %) and doesn't see to
correspond to how many programs I have open. For
instance, right now I have two explorer windows open and
I have 11% free. The low memory available definitely
affects regular use.

I recently cleaned up my computer and defragmented, even
removed all my pictures just to clear up some space.
I have a lot of software on this program, but I have 18.5
gigs on this, and I cannot find out what is using all
this space. It doesn't seem to correspond to anything.

Can anyone help?

You seem to be confusing memory and hard disk space. They are two separate
things.

I guess I am. Still, I have 512 Ram on my computer, and
I'm not sure what's taking all of the memory. Now the
Memory meter says 35% free. I didn't do anything to make
it go up from 11%.

First get rid of Memory Meter it sounds like a real winner.
Now if you talking about drive space, have you kept it clean
by deleting .temp files and cookies? These files are created
everytime you go on the net and they can build up to very big
files. Using programs like Window Washer and AdAware keep these
files down to a minimum. :-)
