I have not been able to run my first scan. It begins
quikly and then a message box appears that says "low
system memory", then the scan stalls.

Thanks!

Hi

Try to start MSAS scanning in safe mode, press
several times F8 during reboot/restart.

Maybe you after this you can use MSAS in normal mode.

Some system details would be good to know as well. What OS, how much ram do
you have. Is anything else open when running MS AS 1.0 Beta? How many icons
in your system tray as a general indication of current ram usage. Or better
yet some details of ram usage from Task Manager. Those would be so useful
details. At least what OS and total system ram.

Actually I have been battling the same thing. It is a
spyware install changing page file (virtual memory) size
during your scan.
Open the task manager(ctrl-alt-del)and then click on the
performance tab. now restart your MS ANTISPYWARE scan
with both windows open.
Watch the page file and cpu usage and keep an eye on what
files have been detected. You'll be able to target the
file when the cpu and page file usage go off the chart
just before the whole thing locks up.
then start the task of finding out how to get rid of that
install.
Good luck!

Actually, this may in fact be a memory leak and the antispyware app going
into a loop when it hits some problems--perhaps permissions on a registry
key or file set so that the current user cannot access them. Your
troubleshooting steps are exactly right for the issue, though.
