After I upgraded to Vista my computer has not worked right. It's slower,
needs to be restarted every day, I have no sound and other low memory
problems. I have noticed that the windows old file is 43 GB which is almost
half of my total memory. Is the best thing to fix my computer to go back to
XP or just get rid of large files like the windows old so Vista can run
properly. Any suggestions at all I don't even know where to start. Thank you
for any ideas and time spent on my question.

Since you told us nothing about your computer, it is impossible to give
you an informed opinion about the suitability of your computer for Vista.

You are referring to "memory" when you mean hard drive space. The fact
that you have no sound indicates that you didn't install drivers for the
sound card and possibly you forgot to install drivers for all your other
hardware.

Post back with your computer specs - make/model if an OEM machine (Dell
HP, etc.), processor speed, amount of RAM, and size of hard drive and
people will be better able to help you.

As long as you have extracted any important files like pictures, music,
e-mail backups etc, you can delete Windows.old.

Re. sound, you will have to go to the sound card manufacturer website and
obtain the latest Vista drivers.

Also ensure that you have enough memory. Older systems with relatively slow
processors, slow IDE hard drives and video cards will benefit from a memory
injection. Look to 2gb..

Sorry I have a HP Compaq Presario C304 NR. This is a test as my longer
message wouldn't go through and was just erased. Before I write more lets see
if this much will go through.

Drivers for Vista 32-bit:

I don't see the Presario C304NR listed, even though there are Vista drivers.

Here are the product specs for this computer, although you may have
ordered yours with different ones. Since you again didn't include that
information, I can't know if you did or not.

According to that link, your computer came with a Celeron processor
running at 1.6GHz, 512MB of memory (max 2GB), an Intel integrated
graphics chip (Media Accelerator 950), and an 80GB hard drive. This
machine will be slow running XP because of the Celeron processor but
acceptable with 512MB or 1GB of RAM. It will be a dog under Vista. The
hard drive is also on the small side for Vista.

If these specs match your computer, my recommendation would be to return
the machine to factory condition with the Compaq Restore Disks and keep
XP on it. You will not have a satisfactory experience running Vista.
