Lousy connection

Just recently I,ve been getting poor download speeds from newsgroups.
I put in a new hard drive and installed XP on that as a test which
works much better.
Are there any dll files that may be corrupted (winsock for example)
that I can try copying from the test setup to the original one?

If you talk about these groups: they had some issues with worms and
virii spreading around causing delays in loading posts and in posting.
But this should now be fixed.
