Loud Rattling Roaring Sound on Startup

Sometimes when I start up my PC, even on reboot, it sounds like a jet engine
and starts to make a rattling sound. Then afer a while it dies down and I
do not hear it. It can go a long time without making these sounds? Is this
the fan going out or what?? This is a clone I built a few years ago.

I would HOPE it's a fan. You haven't mislaid a family pet recently?
My next move would be to open the case and do a visual check of each fan
including PSU. Sounds like a good cleaning may be in order.

Does it do this when there is a cd in the drive? That is the common culprit.
