Hi,

I'm hoping to find soem advice and help about PC based Intenet connection
sharing.

For many years I used WinProxy. I liked the fact that it had integrated
virus protection. WinProxy is no more. I started to look ar some remaining
alternatives like UserGate.

This made think about the value of such software comapred to MS ICS. Is
there any added benefit (other than integrated virus checker)?
Is there a way to add integrated virus checking to ICS?
How sae is MAS ICS?
How does ICS compare to a hardware router?

Some first questions about using ICS:
- why can't I define the local address? ICS demands that I'm using 192.....

Hi
ICS is the most basic software Routing application.
It free, and if used with two or three computers, No Wireless, and casual
surfing and email checking it is a good solution.
Hardware Router is more stable provides many features and add a lot of
flexibility to maintaining a Local Network.
ICS has No add-Ons, so if your Proxy does anything more that you need you
probably better of staying with it.

Hi,

M problem is that Ositis discontinued the WinProxy product. At this point
I'm looking for a replacement. Looks like ICS is out. It seems my choices are
UserGate or a hardware based solution that supports integrated virus checking
(in which case I belive only SonicWall offers a somewaht affordable product).
Of course there is also a product from D-Link that appears to be an in-line
virus checker (DSD-150).

Does anyone have experience with either of the products?

Hi
You did not indicated the reason for software Routing. Assuming that you
have a regular home Network.
Most End-User are using Wireless Routers, and regular AntiVirus software.
It is a very inexpensive way to provide very stable Internet service to
peer-to-peer network.
Actually the AV that is provided through Appliances is Not always as good as
software AV that is updated very frequently.
Reliable AV appliances are very expensive and require paid subscription as
well.
