On trying to run LOTR BFME I get a program crash screen. Doctor Watson
reports the follow module seems to fail
df394b!CModuleMonitor__IsModuleWithinLimits+0x4e78f
Any ideas if I can get it to work?

That's a new one...

You could try contacting EA, I've had a look on the website and nothing on
there about it and virtually nothing on it googling either. So e-mailing
them about it might be worth doing.

Couple of things I'd try:

Ensuring your drivers are up to date, if you're not sure how have a look at
(http://windows.dasmirnov.net/guides/drivers.php)
Uninstall bfme, reboot, reinstall.
Try running under a different admin user.
Check the Event Viewer (Control Panel / Admin Tools) see if there's anything
related in there or something that might shed some more light on it.
Make sure nothing else is running in the background (ctrl+alt+del) close
anything in the processes tab that's running under your username.

I'm running catalyst 4.12 on a 9800 pro with direct x 9c. The event viewer
has two log entries:

The application, <unknown>, generated an application error The error
occurred on 01/02/2005 @ 18:29:02.375 The exception generated was c0000005 at
address 667C486B (~df394b!CModuleMonitor__IsModuleWithinLimits)

Faulting application game.dat, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module ~df394b.tmp,
version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000c486b.

The program failed even after a clean boot. I have had problems previously
with games on DVD. c0000005 is access violation isn't it?

Program even failed following clean boot, so I'm sure its not another
application

I have fixed the problem in a somewhat expensive manner. This is not the
first game on DVD which I have had problems loading. Both farcry and
invisible war had difficulties. In both of these cases it turned out to be
the copy protection on the DVD which my particular samsung SM308B (the combo
drive in dell dimension 4400 machines) drive gave a non standard response to.
On contacting ea all sorts of suggestions such as updating drivers, updating
drive firmware, changing the name of one of the files in the sv support
directory to remove the swedish a and installing from harddisk, to creating a
new profile and installing from that. None of these suggestions worked. No
mention was made of copy protection but I suspect that once again this is
causing the problem. This theory is supported by the fact that once I
replaced the samsung drive with a new drive (an artec DVD RW drive) the game
loaded without any problems from the same installation.
