Lost Win2K desktop...need it back

I feel like an idiot but that's nothing new. Anyhow, I didn't actually lose
the desktop - I deliberately made it go away. I don't want anything on my
desktop and a long time ago I found something on the internet that
instructed one how to keep any icons from showing up on the desktop...you
can see them with windows explorer in the desktop folder but they are
invisible on the desktop itself.
Now, I am giving the machine to my grandaughter who naturally wants to put
icons and wallpaper on the desktop and I cannot remember what I did to keep
the icons from showing or how to undo it and have looked all over the place
without success for a way to return the desktop to "normal". Can anyone
help?

many thanks

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply. Actually I finally found the answer. If you
create a registry value named NoDesktop with a value of 1 in the
Hkey\CurrentUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policy\Explorer\
key no icons will be displayed on the desktop (taskbar shows as normal).
To restore normal functionality simply delete the created key or I assume a
value of zero would do the same thing.

Good to hear it's resolved.
