Hi, Geoff.
Since you didn't tell us WHICH "suggestions" didn't work, we'll have to
start at the beginning. Well, AFTER you've made sure you have speakers,
they are plugged in - properly - and turned on, and stuff like that.
Start | Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices. Settings on the several
tabs on this page should be self-explanatory, but note especially:
Do not check Mute.
Do check Place volume icon in the taskbar. This should put an icon that
looks like a speaker near your clock. A double-click here should bring up
the Play Control window, which lets you adjust various inputs and outputs
individually. A single-click should present a simple slider control plus a
mute button.
If that doesn't get you going, tell us step by step what you do and what you
see. "I've tried everything" doesn't tell us anything, and neither does,
"Nothing works". And it might head off future questions if you mention the
make and model of your computer, your sound card and your speakers.
