Lost users

My wife recently asked me to look at her laptop. It boots to the XP Welcome page, but there are no users! I tried booting to Safe Mode, but it still needs a user. The administrator doesn't even come up. Help!

Hi

In Safe Mode, at the empty Welcome page, press Ctrl+Alt+Del *twice*
to get the ordinary logon page.
 
Thanks for the suggestion MVP. I had managed to find that earlier, but my wife doesn't remember ever putting a password for "Owner", the only user to show up. I don't know if it required one when she first started it up. We have tried everything that we could think of, but to no avail. We will keep trying.

Based on both posts, sounds like it has XP Home, if so, boot to safe
mode and use "administrator" without a password - you can at least get
in, and if necessary create another user to get in without being in
safe mode. As far as how her account was deleted - no clue, virus,
Trojan, malware, spyware - take your pick.
