Recently I had to do a reinstall as I had contracted a virus.
I forgot to back up the documents in one of the user accounts and now
I cannot access them although I know that they exist on the hard drive.
Is there a solution to this?? Thanks. Mick

What do you mean "they exist on the hard drive". Do you mean you only did a
repair install and you can still see the files, just are denied access? If
this is the case, take ownership.

If you did a clean install complete with format and you are saying the files
'exist on the hard drive" because you know that the data may still be
there, contact a professional data recovery company such as Drive Savers.
This will start at around $500USD and go up from there, but only you can
determine the value of your data.
