Lost User Account

In XP Home, I ran lusmgr.msc, created a new non-administrative user account,
and rebooted, then found that my usual administrative user account named John
was "gone", along with all of its My Document files, including lots of images
and music. Now I'm unable to access it. Its name is still listed in Local
Users and Groups, but I can't get into it; it's no longer listed in Control
Panel User Accounts. It appears in Documents and Settings in Windows Explorer
as a folder, but it says "C:\Documents and Settings\John is not accessible.
Access is denied," and its properties say it has 0 bytes. When I log on to
the computer now, I get the default Administrator account. I tried a couple
recovery software programs, which "saw" the files - they were shown - but
wouldn't recover them, saying they were not deleted. So how do I get them and
the account back? I've tried System Restore, which is useless; it just keeps
saying Cannot Restore. Help, please....
