After using the Disk Cleanup I lost the entire content of the Contacts.
I located the pst file but don't know what to do to bring all addresses back
to my Contacts. I am using XP pro with Office 2003 Small Business Edition.
Help...
MS

Explain more accurately what happened.
Bear in mind that disk cleanup will not touch a PST file.
Bear mind that Contacts do not exist separately from a PST file.
There is more to this story than you've told us.
Please tell me you back up your data.

I don't really know what happened. I did the Disk Cleanup, then defragmented
my C drive and turned off the computer. Next time I opened my Outlook the
contacts were gone. I am a computer rookie so I don't know what kind of
information you need from me to fix this problem.
Thanks,
MS

When you re-opened Outlook, did you get any error messages about a missing
file or a file that could not be found?
Do you have more than one Windows logon account?
Do you use more than one Outlook profile?

For some reason Outlook is now using a different data file than the one you
were using before. I wasn't there and can't tell you why. But your data will
still be there. Search your hard drive for all PST files. Open each in
Outlook until you find your Contacts.

Thanks for halping me out.
I have only one windows log-on and profile. I am not getting any error
messages when opening Outlook.
I found 6 pst files and opened all of them in Outlook. They all contain my
mail and mail folders but none has the contacts. I was able to open my mail
in the inbox and send e-mai.
The only strange thing I noticed was that while locating pst files some
folders containing pst files looked faded in Windows Explorer.
Does the above tell you anything?

Have you checked to see if your data accidentally got moved to a different
folder?
Outlook just does not lose data for no reason. It takes some definitive
action on the part of the end user.

This may be a really dumb question and relates directly to where Russ is
sending you (BTW I think your ESP's great today Russ!) - are you in Mail
folders view????? You must in 2003 use the Folder List view to see folders
other than email ones (eg Contacts, Calendar etc.)

Do you mean none contains a Contacts folder? I simply don't see how that's
possible.
I was able to open my mail in the inbox and send e-mai.

How did you specify the recipient address? Do you click To and select one
from the Address Book or did you simply type one in the To field?
The only strange thing I noticed was that while locating pst files
some folders containing pst files looked faded in Windows Explorer.

That means the folders are "hidden" folders. For example, the folder
%UserProfile%\Local Settings (C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings) is a hidden folder, as is the Application Data folders both
parallel to it and underneath it (i.e.,
%UserProfile%\Application Data and %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application
Data). The default location for your PST is %UserProfile%\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. When looking for PSTs, it's a
good idea to enable searching in hidden files and folders.
