Lost sound

Has anyone else ran into this: You're playing a video with sound that is on
your desktop, everything is fine, then when you go to play another your audio
for the next video won't play. So you go back to the previous video that
worked, and that doesn't have sound either. So you check your system for
other sounds, and nothing works, until you reboot. it's like something just
stops the audio on the system.

I've updated the audio drivers (SoundMAX), and WMP (from v7 to v9), and
Quicktime (from v6.5.2 to v7.0) as this was what the user was using to view
the vids so perhaps that might take care of it, I just wanted to know if
anyone has ran into this, with w2k or xp. I had this happen on another
machine once but never found out what it would've taken to fix it as the user
just got rid of the laptop.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

I have the same problem in a notebook that I have, and even reinstalling the
operating system again (in a different hard disk) the problem is still
persisting. All the drivers are updated (card and operating system).

Until now I'm using it in this way. I reached the follwing conclusions:
- bug unknown(audio card), or,
- hardware issue (audio chip faulty for example).

Try to use the same audio card in another computer to check if the problem
is with it. I cannot test it, because it is integrated. I hope that you will
be able to do this test.

Otherwise, install a new audio card on the same computer. It is not so
expensive and I think that it will not give you so big headache...

Regards,

Adriana

Unfortunately this is on a laptop as well with integrated sound. I did ask
the client to let me know if it pops up again, hopefully it won't.

Thanks for replying though!!
