lost Solitaire on IE6 upgrade

When I upgraded to IE6 from my old IE4 I encountered - and have since mostly
fixed - numerous problems small and large. One odd one is that my good ol'
MSSolitaire no longer opens! Any idea why that is, and what I can do about
fixing it? I run Win98 (not SE).

I already tried that. No drivers are available that are any more up-to-date
than the ones that I am already using. At least according to Microsoft,
Intel, and my monitor mfgr.
 
Try to reduce the graphic acceleration.

Thanks for sticking with me on this! I tried reducing the accelaration as
you suggested, to None. Still no good. I still get the error message: This
program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down... - and
the program doesn't open at all.

Not usually a cause but check for parasites.
