Hey,

I was 81 in August and my family gave me Windows Vista as a gift.. I
hesitated a few weeks before I tried to load it.

By then I realized that I don't have the Authorization Code, or the
Manual, or even the receipt from the online Vendor and I can't
remember where I bought it.

Is there any possible hope for me??? I hate to tell my family that I
can't use the disc without the Authorization Code....I'm so
embarrassed!

Help please in getting this thing loaded?

A million thanks from one desperate soul!

The Product Key should be fixed to the CD/DVD Jewel case.....

The OP purchased through an online vendor and downloaded it to his drive. No Jewel Case

No Jewel Case

And just WHERE in the OP did he say that? NOWHERE. No mention AT ALL of
downloading it. He said he was given it as a gift by his family.

And where can you DOWNLOAD Vista? Please do tell me.....

Gordon

The above is where I deducted it from

Also you can PURCHASE Vista on Line from many different vendors like Amazon as an example

Absolutely - but NOT by download. You get a CD/DVD. In a Jewel Case. With a
Product key.

Not quite Gordon. Once you pay at certain sites you can download the software or OS depending on what you purchased. just like Office.
The OP also had the option and I do not know if he took advantage of it to have the CD\DVD also sent.

Actually Gordon, right here:

By then I realized that I don't have the Authorization Code, or the
Manual, or "even the receipt from the online Vendor" and I can't
remember where I bought it.

If you purchased it online then, surely, you should have an email from the
vendor telling you the information you need. Maybe a check of your emails
'might' throw some light on the subject.

Now as you said you purchased the copy of Vista online you had to pay for it
with something and that 'something' would be a 'credit card'. Locate our
credit card statement (as proof of purchase).

I'm not actually sure how this is going to work, but it is worth a try. As I
said locate your credit card statement (sorry you are going to need proof of
purchase) and then click on the link below:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;326246

Incidentally your credit card statement will also tell you who you purchased
your copy of Vista from. Once you know who the vendor is you can email them
and ask them to check their records for the product code number.

hi mikie ...a while ago (2007) i purchased a copy of office 2007 from pc
world in uk at some point i had to reinstall the program but could not find
the product key after moving house i phoned microsoft and after a bit of
arguing with the operater they asked me to tell them what the code on the
disc was i knew nothing of this they explained that most software discs have
a code around the center hole it is engraved into the disc apparently this
code will tell them if it is a genuine disc and if so can issue a new
activation code this they did for me it might be the same for your vista disc
its worth a try aslong as it is genuine hope this helps

It won't.

Main reason: his disc is an OEM version. Microsoft is out of the
picture.

You say you received Vista as a gift from your family.

You say you can't remember where YOU bought it.

You infer you have absolutely no proof that anyone even bought it.

Tough situation at best.

<sigh> - I'll say it again - YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD VISTA from an "online
vendor" which is what this is all about. The OP would have received a CD/DVD
IN A JEWEL CASE with the product key stuck to it.

<sigh> Will you PLEASE show me a website where you can DOWN LOAD VISTA? The
short answer is YOU CANNOT.

Peter Foldes said:
Here is a prime example

<EVEN bigger sigh> that is a RE-INSTALLATION DVD - it is NOT a DOWNLOAD -
and it pre-supposes an existing Vista Licence. If that is what the OP was
given then he needs to return it to the people who gave it to him.

We are talking about someone who has been GIVEN a Vista CD/DVD as a present.
If it is a GENUINE Vista CD/DVD then it comes in a JEWEL CASE with a Product
key affixed to it.
I repeat - YOU CANNOT DOWNLOAD VISTA FROM ANYWHERE LEGAL unless you have an
MSDN subscription.
ANY purchase of VISTA (as with XP and W2K) always comes as a CD/DVD with a
product key affixed to it.
